Who must appoint an FSS in SA

Since 8 December 2023, Standard 3.2.2A requires category 1 and category 2 food businesses in South Australia — those handling unpackaged, potentially hazardous, ready-to-eat food, such as food-service venues, caterers and certain retailers — to appoint a certified Food Safety Supervisor whose training was completed within the last five years.

Which training is accepted

SA accepts the nationally recognised hospitality units SITXFSA005 & SITXFSA006 (the SITSS00069 skill set) — exactly what this course provides. Retail-only businesses may instead use the retail unit SIRRFSA001, and some community-services or health settings use the HLTSS00061 units. If you’re unsure which fits your business, ask us before enrolling.
