Who needs a Food Safety Supervisor in Tasmania?
From December 2023, certain food service, catering and retail businesses in Tasmania that handle unpackaged, ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food must appoint at least one Food Safety Supervisor with a Statement of Attainment against the national units. (Fundraising-event-only businesses are exempt.)
Renewal: Tasmania requires FSS training at least every 5 years. If a certificate expires, the business has 30 days for the FSS to retrain or to appoint another qualified staff member.

From December 2023, certain food-service, catering and retail businesses in Tasmania that handle unpackaged, ready-to-eat, potentially hazardous food sold direct to customers must appoint at least one Food Safety Supervisor. Businesses operating only at fundraising events are exempt.
Renewing and replacing your FSS
Tasmania requires Food Safety Supervisor training to be completed at least every five years. If a supervisor’s certificate expires — or the supervisor leaves the business — there is a 30-day window to have them retrain or to appoint another qualified Food Safety Supervisor.
