Serving alcohol in Queensland? You need an RSA within 30 days.
Anyone who serves or supplies alcohol at a licensed venue in Queensland — pubs, clubs, bars, restaurants, cafés, bottle shops, cellar doors, delivery — must complete RSA training within 30 days of starting. That includes under-18s who serve, international students and travellers.

Is this RSA course accepted in Queensland?
Queensland requires the nationally recognised unit SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol, completed through a registered training organisation, with a Statement of Attainment (Liquor Regulation 2002, s 38). That is exactly what this is: Melbourne Tech Institute is RTO #45799, SITHFAB021 is on our scope, and the course teaches Queensland liquor law. You can check us on training.gov.au.
How much does it cost?
$59, all in. No card fee, no re-sit fee, no certificate fee. The knowledge checks are open book with unlimited retries, and if your final recording is missing something your assessor simply asks you to record it again.
How long does it take?
It’s self-paced — do it in one sitting or spread it over a few days. There are nine short modules; the presenter videos add up to about 45 minutes, and every question is tap-to-answer, so there’s nothing to type.
Can I do it on my phone?
Yes. The whole course works on a phone, and the final step is recorded on a phone anyway. A computer works just as well.
What is the phone recording at the end?
About two minutes. You hold your photo ID next to your face and say your name, the date and “this is my own work”. Then, in your own words, you say how you would refuse service to a customer who has had too much, and what you and the duty manager would do if someone refused to leave. Plain words are perfect — there is no script to memorise. A qualified MTI assessor watches it.
When do I get my certificate?
Once your assessor has signed off your results and your USI (Unique Student Identifier) is on file, we issue your Statement of Attainment for SITHFAB021 and email it to you. Queensland doesn’t issue an RSA card — the Statement of Attainment is the proof your employer needs.
Does a Queensland RSA expire?
No. Queensland’s regulator says a valid RSA certificate doesn’t expire, and you only need to do accredited RSA training once — unless you did it before 2002. Read the Queensland Government page.
How soon do I need it after starting a job?
Queensland gives new staff 30 days from starting at a licensed venue to complete their RSA. That applies to anyone who serves or supplies alcohol — including under-18s who serve, international students and travellers.
I work in NSW, Victoria or another state. Is this the right course?
Not at the moment. This course teaches Queensland law and is sold for work in Queensland only. Other states have their own RSA rules (NSW and Victoria in particular need their own approved courses). Call us on 1300 931 628 if you’re not sure.
Do I need a USI?
Yes — every nationally recognised course in Australia needs one. If you don’t have one, it takes about five minutes, free, at usi.gov.au, and you can add it after you start.
I also need a Food Safety Supervisor certificate. Do you do that?
