About Us
About Melbourne Tech Institute
Melbourne Tech Institute is a registered training organisation — RTO #45799 — listed on training.gov.au, the Australian government's own register of training providers. We deliver the training, we assess it, and we issue your certificate ourselves. It does not pass through another provider.
What we deliver
Two lines of training. The Food Safety Supervisor certificate is the nationally recognised skill set SITSS00069 — units SITXFSA005 and SITXFSA006 — delivered 100% online for $129, and it is what most people come to us for. Alongside it we deliver the MSL laboratory qualifications, from the Certificate III in Laboratory Skills through to the Diploma of Laboratory Technology, plus HACCP (FBPFSY3002) and CPR and first aid.
How the laboratory training works
The laboratory qualifications are delivered in the workplace and assessed on the job people already do, with recognition of prior learning for staff who are already experienced. That is why we work as much with employers — food processors, meat and agriculture businesses, testing laboratories — as with individuals. Government funding may be available for eligible students and employers in ACT, TAS and SA.
Marked seven days a week
Assessments are marked on weekends as well as weekdays, because a certificate that arrives on Monday is no use to someone starting a shift on Saturday. We publish the current turnaround — the share of certificates issued within 24 hours, and the median time — on the Food Safety Supervisor page, and we re-measure it from our own system every month rather than estimating it.
Where we are
Our head office is at Level 5, 111 Cecil Street, South Melbourne, and we have a second office at Level 4, 60 Moorabool Street, Geelong. Those are our two staffed offices. Everything else is delivered online or on-site at your workplace, anywhere in Australia — there is no campus to attend. We are also an approved NSW Food Authority provider, number 88522, which is what allows us to issue the NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate.
Check us before you pay
Anyone can call themselves a training provider. Look us up on training.gov.au — search RTO 45799 — and you will see our registration and exactly what we are approved to deliver. We would rather you checked than took our word for it. Our students have rated us 5.0 on Google; you can read the reviews too.
