Certificate expiry — FAQs
Does a Food Safety Supervisor certificate expire?
The nationally recognised units don’t carry a printed expiry date, but since Standard 3.2.2A took effect in December 2023, most states and territories require your training to have been completed within the last 5 years, so in practice you retrain every 5 years. Victoria and the Northern Territory don’t publish a renewal period. NSW additionally runs its own 5-year certificate. Pick your state above for the exact answer.
What happens if my certificate has already lapsed?
It depends on your state. In New South Wales, you can usually still renew through the shorter NSW recertification pathway if it expired 90 days ago or less. In Tasmania, the business has 30 days to retrain the supervisor or appoint another qualified one. Everywhere else, the fix is simply to complete the course again.
