What Is a Food Safety Supervisor Certificate & Who Needs One?

A Food Safety Supervisor (FSS) certificate is a nationally recognised qualification that proves you understand how to handle food safely in a commercial environment. Under Standard 3.2.2A of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, most food businesses in Australia are required to have at least one certified Food Safety Supervisor on the premises. This applies to cafés, restaurants, bakeries, aged care facilities, childcare centres, and any other business that handles unpackaged, ready-to-eat food.

The FSS certificate covers two units of competency: SITXFSA005 (Use hygienic practices for food safety) and SITXFSA006 (Participate in safe food handling practices).
