For work in the Northern Territory

This page is for the Northern Territory and teaches Northern Territory law. Working in Queensland? See the Queensland RSA course. NSW, Victoria and the other states have their own RSA rules, so an RSA for another state is a different course. Working in Victoria or NSW? Our course isn’t available there yet, but you can register your interest and we’ll email you the day it opens. Not sure? Call 1300 931 628.

Need Food Safety Supervisor too? Get both for $169.

Many pubs, clubs and cafés need both. RSA ($59) plus our nationally recognised Food Safety Supervisor course ($129) is $188 separately — $169 together, save $19. One payment, both courses online.

Northern Territory RSA — your questions answered

Is this RSA course accepted in the Northern Territory?

Licensing NT’s RSA page says licence holders should only accept certificates issued by a recognised training organisation (RTO) registered to deliver RSA training, and that this includes certificates from outside the NT. The current course code is SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol. Melbourne Tech Institute is RTO #45799 and SITHFAB021 is on our scope — you can check us on training.gov.au. Licensing NT does not approve individual providers, so we don’t claim its approval. Read the NT Government page.

How soon do I need it after starting a job?

The NT Government says staff must complete an RSA course within 7 days of starting work at a licensed premises.

Does a certificate from outside the NT expire there?

The NT Government says someone who got their RSA interstate may not realise their certificate is no longer valid after 3 years in the NT. To stay compliant they can complete a free refresher course on the NT refresh RSA website, and the refresher must be completed every 5 years. Read the NT Government page.

How much does it cost?

$59, all in. No card fee, no re-sit fee, no certificate fee. The knowledge checks are open book with unlimited retries, and if one of your final written answers is missing something your assessor simply asks you to add to it.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

You have 30 days from enrolling. If you’re not satisfied, email [email protected] and tell us what went wrong — we’ll refund you in full, and we process it within 72 hours. No admin fee, no cancellation fee, and no form to fill in.

How long does it take?

It’s self-paced — do it in one sitting or spread it over a few days. There are nine short modules; the presenter videos add up to about 45 minutes, and everything is tap-to-answer except two short written answers at the end.

Does the course cover Northern Territory law?

Yes. Alongside the national RSA content it includes a Northern Territory section on your key duties under the Liquor Act 2019: refusing service to an intoxicated person, refusing service to anyone on the Banned Drinker Register, and removing people who are violent, quarrelsome or disorderly.

What is the Banned Drinker Register?

The NT Government says anyone buying takeaway alcohol must show approved ID, and staff use it to check whether the person is on the Banned Drinker Register (BDR). It says someone on the BDR is not allowed to buy, keep or drink alcohol in the NT, takeaway included. Read the NT Government page.

Can I do it on my phone?

Yes. The whole course works on a phone, and the two short written answers at the end are easy to type on a phone. A computer works just as well.

When do I get my certificate?

Once your assessor has signed off your results and your USI (Unique Student Identifier) is on file, we issue your Statement of Attainment for SITHFAB021 and email it to you.

I work in Queensland, NSW, Victoria or another state. Is this the right course?

This page is for work in the Northern Territory. Working in Queensland? See our Queensland RSA course. NSW, Victoria and the other states have their own RSA rules, so this isn’t the right course there for now. Working in Victoria or NSW? Our course isn’t available there yet, but you can register your interest and we’ll email you the day it opens. Call us on 1300 931 628 if you’re not sure.

Do I need a USI?

Yes — every nationally recognised course in Australia needs one. If you don’t have one, it takes about five minutes, free, at usi.gov.au, and you can add it after you start.

I also need a Food Safety Supervisor certificate. Do you do that?

Yes — our Food Safety Supervisor course is $129, 100% online and nationally recognised. Many pubs, clubs and cafés need both, so you can get both for $169 (save $19).
