Under section 19GA of the Victorian Food Act 1984, all class 1, most class 2 and class 3A food premises must have a Food Safety Supervisor. (Some class 2 community groups that trade for no more than two consecutive days with mostly volunteer staff are exempt.) The FSS needs a Statement of Attainment against the units for their food sector — SITXFSA005 & SITXFSA006 for hospitality, SIRRFSA001 or those same two units for retail, and HLTFSE001, HLTFSE005 & HLTFSE007 for the health and community-services sectors. One person can be the FSS across several premises if each council is satisfied.
Renewal: Victoria is the exception: the official Department of Health guidance sets no renewal period and states there is no Victorian requirement to retrain beyond the minimum competencies. Even so, many employers ask staff to refresh their training periodically.
